November 26th, 2008 by admin

Gorey Based company D’Arcy Property Management, a long standing client of ours approached us lookig for bring their business forward for 2009. We sat down and discussed their needs, their hopes, their target market etc. Then we worked out a new website marketing stragegy for them and a way to design a new website to be user friendly but yet search engine friendly too, a mix often not balanced in web design.

We created a new website that is fully content managed allowing them to really drive their website forward in search engines and to also make sure their clients and potential clients have the latest properties available to rent in Gorey and the south east.

We also gave D’Arcy Property Management a company blog as they wished to keep their news about the industry updated straight away. Their blog allows them to put small news items up asap and in a user friendly way.

Matt Cutts from Google interviewed.

November 20th, 2008 by admin

Matt Cutts from Google was interviewed in Las Vagas at the PubCon show recently and he pointed out a number of changes that are going to be happening in Google in the new year.

He talked about the user experience gaining in priority and that a move towards personalisation is very important. Meaning that the website content for searches must be geared towards the users and not just writing for search engines. Google basically will look at the content and examine it to see if it reads well or is just a string of key phrases thrown into a paragraph.

Localisation was touched on again by Matt pointing out that Geo Targeting your search results will become more to the front in 2009. Basically depending where you are will show results for your geographical location.

On the question on is “Page Rank Dead?” he pointed out again that basically Yes they are moving away from displaying sites with a high page rank and giving priority to sites with good website content. He also said that they are going to be looking more at companies that use “White Hat Solutions” and “Black Hat Solutions“. These are methods of creating web pages that fool a search engine into showing it first, like loading it with H1 tags in displaying content or “Keyword Stuffing” pages with key phrases what people might use, but when you actually sit down to read the page it’s crap. Just a load of phrases and no “Real Content” to understand what that page is about.

So to all our clients, get your thinking cap on and start coming up with good web copy and starting writing for your audience.

Google Changing . .

November 18th, 2008 by admin

We have mentioned about google changing its algorithm over 450 times last year and having over 200 criteria for their page rank but now it seems that from early 2009 they will be pushing for Geo-Targeting search results, meaning that depending on where you are it will display different results. We have carried our a few simultaneous searches in our Wexford offices here and our Dublin office as well as a colleague in the Uk and found that we all have got different results depending on our location.

Great you say  . . .  but what has this got to do with me and my website. Well you must now starting taking this into consideration when writing your website content. Google is starting to look at wheat searches you are carrying out and is return results to suit you. This will happen even if you have a google account or not. They are looking at search trends and what an IP address for instance looks for.

This means that page rank could be a thing of the past as they change the way they look upon information around the world and how they index it.

We are predicting that people will start seeing their website jumpin Google’s listings from early 2009.

November 14th, 2008 by admin

Well are friends in Koo Restaurant are really showing us how running a marketing campaign really can be taken to many levels. Passing by the restaurant the other day on the way to work i now see they have another billboard and they have to only 100 yards away from the restaurant itself

Great Idea, having display advertising close to where your premises has always been of great benefit to businesses as people often make quick decisions and call in

Well Done Koo Restaurant, Keep up the good work.

Cheap Websites only €299 or less?

November 13th, 2008 by admin

Websites for €299 . . . Really where can i sign up . . . What a great deal . . . or is it??

This is becoming a more and more common in the south east as we see website design businesses pop up in Google Advertising. They offer

  • Home Page,
  • 1 Year Web Hosting,
  • Your own web & email address,
  • Photo carousel,
  • Google optimisation,
  • Web site traffic reports,
  • Email marketing tools,
  • News and blog writer,
  • 1 Year maintenance contract,
  • Content management system.

I would like people to think about their business decisions and who they are putting their business on the line with. We have heard many tales of woe over the years. Each one of these bullet points has various levels so please make sure to research exactly what you are getting.

  • Is it a .ie registration?
  • Is is a .com registration?
  • Will they be there next year?
  • Is it registered in your or their name?
  • Where is it hosted?
  • What type of hosting package is it?
  • How many are hosted on the same server?
  • What is their support like?
  • Telephone support?
  • Email support?
  • Can you call to their office?
  • What site stats or reports do you get?
  • What does the “maintenance contract” entail?
  • How many pages do you get?
  • How is it optimised for search engines?
  • Is the fee an annually recurring charge

We have to hold our hands up and admit, we have tried ideas like this in the past and even thrown in 250 business cards to help the sale, but that was when we didn’t understand the complexity of what we were really getting into when putting a businesses reputation online. Branding their business on the internet.

The Internet is a serious marketing tool and I would recommend that people look at these so called “cheap website deals” and think about what it means to their business cause in the long run I know it will actually cost them more and not just in money terms, but their reputation.

Does it sound to good to be true? If so you know what to do . . .

Marketing in Wexford – Condt…!!

November 10th, 2008 by admin

So there I was working late in the office when the at around 8pm the phone rings . . . a mans voice asking for “Gorey Link” and something about a bus for Saturday night? I was confused as he said he was calling from a Koo restaurant. I politly said that in fact this number was “Cada Media, website designers in Gorey“. We said our good byes.

The phone rings again and It was the same voice looking for a bus. I repeated who we were and the call ended!

It then “clicked” to what was happening, so I dialed the number and the same voice answered. I said who I was and asked had he searched online for something and found us. He said he had looked for “Gorey Link”. I explained that we have operated an online business directory for Gorey Town called GoreyLinks.com for the past 3 years and that Google might have brought us up first. He had got our telephone number from there.

Again we said our good byes.

So whats the moral of the story. . . . . . we are great fans of Irony and seeing a business who used the internet as a last option on the “marketing plan list” turning around and using the Internet to find another business.

Classic !
