World Business Register Emails

well, its that time of the year again when people with current domains get targetted by misleading companies who give the impression that your already listed with them by using words like “time to renew” etc… and often these companies say its free to join or whatever but then get you on the small print for 900 quid!
last year we had clients of ours come in to us with their chequebook ready to pay these guys!! Naturallywe put a stop to that! So this time here is the email that is going around -

See the text pasted below: why would they not know your companies name? why ladies and gentlemen? why would you be in a dutch directory!! and also they say updating is free- you can be sure in a few weeks a similar one will come round to renew and you will be caught out having  ‘updated’  – thus registered with them!!

We recommend you simply DELETE it from your inbox! and think about it no more…

This one has conditions that if you sign it you agree to pay 995 euro for a year and it will auto renew every year! DO NOT SIGN THIS!!!

I received the following email last night on my home computer- its most definately a scam and one that you SHOULD NOT reply to if you get it.

How do I know this? well , apart from the standard mailing rules whereby no serious company would EVER ask a client for personal details such as passwords etc by email, I actually have no eircom accounts whatsoever- nada! nothing! not even a phone!

so my advice is to ignore this email or better still report it to eircom.

We have had a number of clients call complaining that they are being harassed by a UK company telling them that for a small amount each week they can get on top of google. This UK company have NO affiliation with Google and are not calling on their behalf.

YES, you can, but you must pay Google.

Google adwords is a system that you “Pay Per Click” to be listed at the top of their listing. You Pay Google. This can be set up yourself and you spend any amount you wish or you can get it managed by a company you know.

Do Not Give them Your VISA card details.

We have had more say they are doing the hard sell and in hard times people can fall victom to these methods of selling and the promise of more hits and more sales. Carolyn Ruth of Interior Design Concepts Starts Blogging

Local Interior Design Specialist Carolyn Ruth of www.interiordesignconcepts.ie recently approached Cada Media Ltd with a request to Increase her Website Visitors.

One way of doing this was to design a blog for Carolyn based loosely on her original website design, which, whilst visually attractive did not allow her to update it with fresh content as she wished.

We have just got in an email from a clients asking for advice on the renewal of her domain name. An american company emailed her and asked her to review her domain name and if she would like to renew it then she could click on the link provided to renew.

Transfer Away!!!

In actual fact what the company was asking was that they take over as the billing contact for her domain name. There is definately confusion out there and Internet Domain Name companies using these sneeky tacktics just make it more confusing for business owners.

I would recommend that anyone who get an email asking for information about their domain name give me a call and I will be able to tell you if it’s real (as in that you domain is about toi expire with tyour current registrar) or if it’s another company looking to poach your domain to their billing system.

Just to let people know that when you are running advert in a newspaper, please remember to insert your web address. I know many people often forget as they themselves are not web users, but many of your customers might be. If your advert is about a special offer for example also make sure that the special offer in updated on your website too.

I saw a large front page advert this week in a local regional newspaper here in Gorey and I noticed that it was one of our clients. The reason I say this is because later in the year I will be reviewing a website with the client and asking about what traditional marketing methods they used to promote their business online. It’s then they can let me know that they put the website on answering machines, office stationary, vehicle signage etc.

I know, I know, I’m turning into an old Fart!
