Looks like the weather might be having a bit of an effect on the broadband in the Southeast today, We have had a number of calls asking if the email is broken, but as it turns out the clients couldn’t get on to the Internet either. So if you are experiencing problem, please double check that you have an Internet connection first.
Broadband from Eircom travels through the same copper cables that crisscrosses your street and swings when the wind blows, so do expect that your broadband speed to “time-out” or slow down.
Bad weather in Ireland means the broadband slows down.

It’s great to see more and more businesses seeing that open communication tools such as a Blog are a great method of getting in touch with your client base and more importantly your client base getting in touch with you.
Self Service is becoming the norm in supermarkets, petrol station and also the Internet. The means of putting the products or information and allowing the clients to come to it. This method of communication is a less intrusive way of getting your message or point across.
Glasgorman computer services is a local IT company understanding this very concept. Glasgorman specialise in supplying IT audits, Data Protection Audits, Network Design, Project management, Hardware and Software Selection, Preventative Maintenance, Training, Support, Remote Support to name a few.
We would like to wish John and his team the very best with their new Blog and hope to see them up there in Google with us soon.

Yes it’s true, apparently news out this week shows that the Irish nation has embraced social media websites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, YouTube etc with such a vigor that now they are viewed more often than adult websites.
I read recently on a blog run by the famous Damian Mulley that facebook has gone from 200,000 users to nearly 900,000 in 2009 alone. This is faster than light, this must be a world record for the use of a product to grow this fast.
When I started this company back in 1999 here in Gorey the Internet was nearly a rude word as it always had a connotation that the use of the “Interweb” was used to view adult material or that only very big computer companies needed to use it for communication. Now everyone is seeing that the use of the internet is reducing their telephone bills as VOIP calls increase, online backups, emails, marketing, advertising and of course E-commerce and selling and buying on-line.
Using social media is a great example of how the recession is making people aware of their current marketing costs and getting them to reflect on their advertising budgets and ask them selves : are we getting bang for our buck. Usually the answer is not any more. Websites such as Facebook for example allow you to bring your company into the arena where your client base is already mingling.
Example: A pub in Gorey might not want to get a full website but they do appreciate the custom of their clients and they reach out to them using social media, They set up a facebook page and allow people to become fans, and I see now today they have 1,126 listed. They are using facebook to communicate to their customers to let them know about music nights, quiz night, sports matches etc.
Fantastic use the social media and the Internet. Well done guys.

We were happy to be asked to revamp a website we created in 2003 last month. It was for an old friend of our called Alex Moores from Ballymoyle Stud Farm, based at the end of the Arklow Bypass as your heading North bound.
Their old site was a site we created in plain html and in fact was even hosting on eircom’s old http://homepage.eircom.net/~studfarm/index.htm !
Question: how many people can find the “Tilda” ~ on keyboards!
We now have our own hosting servers in Dublin and moved the site to our own platform for development. In order to help Google we created a simple holding page and informed visitors to the site that we had moved to a real location.
We then set about setting up her website with an easy to edit content management system to allow the tech savvy owner ( tee hee, only kidding Alex) to edit and amend the website and keep it fresh and up to date.
The site is now easy to edit from any location and Alex can upload images, text and even video stright from her own pc at home.
Best of luck with the new site Alex

Due to continued growth in an extraordinary year, we are happy to be in a position of having to upgrade our hosting servers to keep up with the demand for high quality web hosting in Ireland. Our new servers continue to be managed by Blacknight Internet Solutions based in Carlow. These guys are the ones we call upon in cases where we physically need to be at the server, they are our hands and eyes at the data centre.
The web hosting server is used to display your websites to the public, open 24/7 the new web hosting machine has 2 xTera byte RAID 2 drives, giving us ample space for expansion. This particular server also has 4 Gig of ram allowing more and more open sessions to run similitaniously.
The switch over to the new machines will take place on Tuesday or Wednesday night. We will let you know when it’s going to take place. There will have to be a downtime of about 1 hour while this happens, all emails will be qued while this is happening and will be delivered once this switch happens.
Any questions give me a call, Dave Jordan 053 9430748

It has come to our attention that many of our clients with online galleries integrated onto their websites are uploading images without resizing them beforehand.
This incurs 2 negative effects.
- The user visiting the site has to wait longer for the images to load – which may result in the loss of a possible customer as their patience is tried.
- The space that your website takes up on our server is increased beyond the allowance relevant to your hosting pack.
Therefore Cada Media Ltd advise all of our clients who use images on their websites to resize their images to the following proportions.
- Uploaded image filesizes to the internet should be around 35kb.
- For large images into a gallery we recommend resizing to approx 600 pixels wide ( landscape layout) X auto height or 480 wide ( portrait layout) X auto height.
- For images on a page ( content images) we recommend a general width of 180 pixels wide X auto height.
- Google offer a free photo manipulation pack called picassa which is available to download here >>>
This will result in better viewing for the curtomer and less disc space useage for your website which means less bills for you.
everyones happy…

Does it work?
We get calls all the time from businesses selling their wares, this week we have had a number of calls from a telephone number that comes up as 0044123456 offering their services to us.
They are a web development and website design business located outside of Ireland and I suspect they are on the other side of the planet by their accent and the time delay on the call.
If you get such a call offering website design services, please tell them that you are ok and that Cada Media Ltd are looking after your needs. Then give me a call and we can help you get your business on-line
