Have dealt with Eircom - nightmare!!
They DONT do DNS changes only www A, CNAME, mx etc
So you can have your domain with them and change your host but be aware if the ip of your host changes the website goes down- has happened to me wont let it happen again - get the client to transfer their domain to another provider which does DNS
Eircom if you read this you are losing business!
Cheers

Hi Peter,

It's a word "can't" I have issues with really, their company policy doesn't allow the owner of the domain to do with it as they wish.

That's all, maybe it's because we do allow all these types of changes here.

Regards

That's not how I read it. They say you can't change the nameservers but you can request changes to the A record. Couldn't you simply request the A record change to point to the new host (and mx record if you want to transfer email to new host as well)?

Exactly John, thats what i saw too. eircom are saying that you must have the domain and hosting with them and you can not change your hosting but rather move away

They are effectively saying good bye to him.

well correct if i'm wrong but i think you misunderstood what they said.
to me it looks as they dont allow changing the NS records for domains they host.

so... if you want eircom to hold your domain, you give them the only right to administer the NS records for your domain.

this is completely separate from where you host your files,no ?
