Starting a business in Wexford?

October 7th, 2008 by admin

If you are thinking of starting a business in Wexford, now is a great time, believe it or not even with the downturn in global economy there are advantages and one of the main one we have noticed is the amount of domain names flooding back onto to the market.

Like shares in companies that are bought when they are at a low price and available so too are domain names. We have looked at the irish domain names being dropped by companies “cutting back” on advertising and see great opportunities for new business to grab a good generic domain name such as www.WeddingBells.ie for people in the wedding directory website industry, www.Auctioneering.ie for business involved in the house sales etc, www.BetterJobs.ie for the recruitment industry, the list is endless.

Note: One of the benefits of registering a domain that was let go by another business is that 1/2 the marketing is already done for you as there is a great chance that the search engines already know about the domain and it has a traffic history with them!

So the time is right, contact us today to see whats the latest domain that have become available to register. Tel: Dave Jordan on 053-9430748

Irish Domain Name disputes

September 8th, 2008 by admin

Again and again we advise our clients and business owners that they should register their domain name to secure their online identity. Registering your Business Name with the Companies office is not good enough.

That only means that you intent to trade or might trade using that name. It also allows you to therefore now register the actual irish domain name. So now you contact us to register the actual www.your-name.ie

Many companies are under the impression that once they have register at the CRO that that’s it !!!

Sounds laughable but is actually very serious as it often leads to law suits and court cases. They are either misimformed by so called “Internet Expert” (nowadays that’s anyone with a bebo page!) or they are just not up so date with business today.

If you are thinking about setting up a business or a website for your business give us a call to get all the options available to you.

Irish Domain Name Price Increase

September 1st, 2008 by admin

We have been informed that Irish Domain Name registration prices have gone up since the 1st September 2008, we have shopped around and are in the process of getting the best price that we can then pass on to our clients.

International domains names still remain the cheapest options for an Irish business to register. Ireland is deciding to push users away from the Irish Domain for some strange reason! It’s so Irish really!

We will be emailing our newsletter to all clients once we have signed the new price agreement.

Google Dropped my site?

July 21st, 2008 by admin

Google will and can drop your website if the domain names expires. This is often the case when you forget to pay for the domain renewal. If your hosting or web development company sends you an invoice for “Renewal” pay attention to it.

Today we had a company call in asking why their website had “dissapeared”. We looked up who registered their domain and found that it was “suspended” as they had not paid their hosting company the renewal fee’s. As part of their terms and conditons they might have the clause to suspend services if they are not paid.

Note: If your website is “down”, many search engines will drop it from their listing. so all your hard work in SEO, link building, Web Marketing can go down the drain as Google could just drop you from No 1 on page one to last on Page 6.

This Account Has Been Suspended – Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.

July 17th, 2008 by admin

This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.

We got a call today from a business asking what this means, When we looked up their domain we were able to tell them that the hosting company they were using in the USA had suspended their account for non payment. They now have to track down the kid who registered their domain name get him to renew their domain.

They have an online shop, so basically they have been shut down, the business is now closed.

My advise again is to make sure that you get a professional full time web master / developer / company to register and host your website.

Our clients are contacted at least 30 days before their domain is due to expire and are offered a number of means of payment, both traditional and online methods. The ADMIN Contact for each client is their own Email address

If you are looking to move your website or change hosting company call Cada Media today to start the move, 053 9430748

Can I sell a dot ie domain name?

July 14th, 2008 by admin

Yes and No. If you are registering a domain name in order to sell it on then we would not suggest doing this as it is seen as cyber squatting and is generally frowned upon. However saying that if you have a dot .ie registered to a company or business, then you can sell the company and the domain would transfer to the new owners of the company.

We have come across companies that have been set up only to register domains and then sell the company with the domain, even though no trading has actually taken place.  One company we know of set up over 50 sub-companies just to be able to sell the 50 irish domains they owned!

It didn’t work.

Alternatively you can point the domain name to another server if you wish to donate the name for a fixed agreed period.

Annual Support Packs V’s Annual Renewal Fees

July 1st, 2008 by admin

There are annual support packages that you can get from your web company and there are annual renewal fees, so what’s the difference?

Annual Support Packages

These can be support contract agreements between two companies whereby one company agrees to manage and update a website for a business. These ammendments can be small text and images changes to telephone support for email questions and spam questions etc. Support Packs can also be in the form of web marketing whereby the company agree to help market and promote one company on the Internet in search engines and portals etc.

Annual Renewal Fees

These are fee that a company pay their Internet provider for the provision of a domain name and a hosting package. This is your .ie or your .com or both. As domains are registered on a yearly basis this means you can expect to be billed for this server every year. Some companies choose to offer multi year registration and can register your domain names for a number of years at a time.

dot com’s are a pain in the Ass !

June 27th, 2008 by admin

Again and again we come across this situation where a business has got someone to register their .com domain name and then the kid has grown up and moved away. We have now spent 3 full days tracking this kid down in order to get the domain name renewed.

The client has spent years advertising the .com address and it is in all the search engines and on all her stationary etc. The fact is that you have less control over you .com than a .ie domain name.

If you are not in control over your .com domain name, you can loose years of hard work in getting the name up on search engines and linked in from all major portals and high page ranking sites.

Get you domain registered by a professional from the start, its will be cheaper in the long run!

Cost over €1,000 to change the “Who is” information.

    June 19th, 2008 by admin

I want to let companies and business know that if a so called “Web Expert” tell you it will cost over €1,000 to change the who is information, it is robbery. Stop and call us asap. We have had situations whereby we have worked on cases for clients that the previous website designer had registered the domain name in the wrong name and when the company in later years wanted to move to another web developer that they were asked to hand over payment of over €1,000

The internet company had registed the domain name in the wrong name and said they “owned” the name. It’s like asking a solicitor to buy a site for you. Then you build a house and live there happily. Years later you decide to sell up and move on, but only to get told that you can’t sell as technically the land belongs to the solicitor still. Then you have to pay him/her off to gets the deeds.

This is exactly what happened to one of our clients.

Please Please Please, be warned, there are sharks out there in every business, do you homework, research, ask the right questions, Who owns the domain name, is it a .com or a .ie.

If it’s a “.ie” then your in a better chance of getting your hands on it, If its a “.com” good luck tracking down the company in america where it was originally bought.

    Domain name expiring – SEO

    June 17th, 2008 by admin

And while i’m on the subject of domain names expiring, just to let you know that when a domain name expires and the search engine bots try to index the site and finds that the information it had yesterday is gone and now there are Google Ads on the site for your competirors.

From then on your website/ domain name often starts to slip off the listings. Search Engines see that the information is no longer available and therefore they wish no longer to display the incorrect answer to their clients, ie the people browsing.

So all your hard work on choosing the write file names for good SEO, key phrases, correcting hosting platform, the correct domain name ……….all goes down the drain.

So be warned, renew your domain name and it will help your SEO

The guy who registered my domain is in Austrialia !

    June 17th, 2008 by admin

When you register your business domain name, please make sure to think about where and with whom you are registering your domain name. It is a vital part of your online identity and letting a neighbours kid register your domain often leads to problems.

In the past few months we have had clients come into us and say that they have even employed private detective to hunt down the person who has registered their domain on their behalf, but has left all the contact details as their own, rather than the company they are securing the domain name for.

So. . . Make sure that the company, be they your solicitor, accountant, printer, web designer, mates-dogs-cousins-friend, that they put in YOUR CONTACT details as the “Admin C” contact.

If this is not the case then the domain can expire and you will not be notified as you wont get an email telling you it’s due for renewal.

    The Wrong Admin Contact Details

This sometimes happens with larger companies as they are registering hundreds a week, and in the bulk registration process the ownership details could get the default contact details of the person who has registered the domain name.

    narnia.mobi

    June 17th, 2008 by admin

It looks like the world is waking up to the mobile domain name market as a woman from Edinburgh gets into hot water over the ownership and registration of a domain name she bought for a present for her son. The family state that the domain was to be used for emails on his mobile phone, but lawyers for the Narnia books by CS Lewis state in legal documents that they family are “Cyber Squatting”.

The Family are not willing to give up the domain name as they say they bought it after the early release of the domains for companies to buy them and so they bought it in good will and are not making any money from owning the domain.

She said in an interview on RTE 1 radio this morning that solicitor firms from Dublin had contacted her to take up her case. The story continues…..
