Goldenpages have a deal with google?!

April 21st, 2010 by admin

A question arose today where a caller to the office was wondering if Truvo / Golden Pages had done a deal with Google. The answer is Yes, but so has everyone who has a Google Account !

Looking further it looks like they are just selling Google Adword.

What are Google Adwords?

This is a method by which you pay Google to display an advert for a search word or phrase someones looks up. These types of Adverts can me made by yourself or you can pay a company such as Golden Pages to make them for you.

But the thing that caught my attention was that this caller is the owner of a major business in Dublin and he really thought that they has “stricken a deal” with Google, he then emailed me a copy of their email to him and all it actually was, was a proposal for Truvo to make these adverts for him and “they” would display them on Google for him.

We too at Cada Media Ltd have this “special Deal” with Google and we too can make you number One in Google for the right price. We do this by setting you up with a Google Account and inserting the terms and phrases that you would like to appear under. The price of these adverts are governed by you!

You pay what you wish to pay and if its enough the advert will be displayed higher and higher in their search results. The cute whores took a leaf out of the auctioneers books years ago and you put in a blind bid to get your advert displayed. These bids gan be as little 11 cent but could also be $20 per advert if you really needed it to be.

Pay Per Click Adverts

Yes as it says, you pay Google every time someone clicks on your advert, each time someone searches for a phrase like “hotels in Wexford” Google will display adverts at the very top in a light yellow colour with the word “sponsored” on the top right hand side. These are Adverts from Hotels in the south each wish to grab you attention. The adverts costs them nothing until you click on it and then it will bring you to their website and also deduct a fee from the hotels google account.

This is how Google earn their money, many people under estimate how much they earn from this type of system, but imagine getting a euro from everyone in Ireland each day, I’d enjoy that so does Google!

So if you wish to do a “deal with Google” and get you company to the top of search engines call Cada Media Ltd today and let starts start getting more business on-line

Online shops Storage

April 20th, 2010 by admin

We have worked on many online shops over the years and one of the funny things to come up in the conversation is the ability to run a business from a private house, especially if you have a family. Running an online shop and using the house as storage often leads to issues with storage and the availability to have enough stock in place.

Many businesses choose to either reduce the amount of items they sell or reduce the number of lines they sell. Another issue is the insurance of the stock that you keep in the house, no to mention the security of the stock if it is expensive small items.

One of the suggestions that we have to these types of businesses is to use a storage business, here in the south east, it would mean talking to Staffords Self Storage.  Secure units that are covered by CCTV and an owner that Bites! John Stafford has built a number of storage units to suit all needs, ranging from some as small as wardrobes to garage size lock ups that are ideals for storing cars and holiday home / camping / ourdoor equipment.

So if you have an online shop in the south east and are wondering where else you could store the products besides from your kids bedroom or the leaky shed why not take a visit to Stafford Self Storage near Gorey, Co. Wexford

Contact is John Stafford

Facebook Fan or Friends Page?

April 19th, 2010 by admin

Well this discussion has been going on for a while now as many businesses found that they didn’t like that Fan pages as the interactivity was very one way and that they felt that they only put announcements on their Facebook page but then they changed and set up a friends page that they had more interaction with their customers!

Interesting point, this can also be changed in the settings and you can allow your Fans to post to your page, just make sure you monitor it as they can say anything! I mean “anything”, Be warned.

This week however say yet another change by Facebook in the changing the “Become a Fan” button to “Like” a business or group pages. It means changing a few marketing pages as many of us are still putting “Become a Fan” on our literature and websites.

Facebook found that nearly twice as many people just clicked on “like” and that they had not become Fans, It has been suggested in search engine circles that this new system will also mean that you click like and then in the future Facebook will know what you like  and thus display similar stuff that you might like too. so really changing from a basic direct forwarding of information from a company page to giving you content from other businesses and groups that might interest you.

Are Facebook going up against the Google and Bing with their suggestive content, maybe, but we do know they are always active in developing their site so its a good thing to keep an eye on where they are going. Standing still means that you turn into a “bebo”.

DoneDeal.ie or DoneADeal.ie?

April 16th, 2010 by admin

Driving home the other day I saw a sign at a junction for a website called www.DoneADeal.ie
At a second glance I noticed at “a” admist the address, so the website wasn’t our friends in Wexford who run www.donedeal.ie but in fact a new site.

Maybe they are trying to do the same task i thought to myself.

So what ! you may say. . . We know they are trying to reach fame by using a similar name to the real site and good for them?

Maybe, but on doing a search online when getting to the office the new site can not be found and in fact is now just helping the real site.

Are the owners trying to fool or trick google? If do they are they have made a giant mistake.

Google is not stupid.

Google is now ignoring the ‘a’ in the middle of the new site and directing people to the original site!

When you are planning an online business we suggest getting off on the right foot so get the right advice.

Does “size” matter? !!

April 15th, 2010 by admin

Yes,  the age old question that every web designer looses sleep over,

Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter?

Deos Size Matter?

The answer is yes, for over 10 years now we have been creating websites that abide to Google Webmaster rule and keep website page small in order to help keep the Size of the page small. One of the methods of keeping the size of a page small is to make sure the images have been reduced in MB size to KB size.

Often these days we find that companies using Content Management Software (CMS) will have the ability to update a website themselves, Great until they update the website with out decreasing the images in megabyte size to a smaller size that will help download the website faster. We see people reducing the image size by grabbing a conor and dragging the image to “appear” smaller but in fact its still 5mb in size.

Remember is the epidose of Father Ted, when Father Ted was explaining to Dougle the difference in size of object in showing hime something “near” and something “far away”, well its the exact same in theis case. Just because the image appears to be smaller, doesnt actually mean that it has changed in volumn in terms of megabyte size.

Anyway, Google is telling us again to stick to these rules so if you have a website and are interested in keeping the Gods happy we would suggest abiding by their rules.

Team Building in Wexford

April 12th, 2010 by admin

This is just one of the services being offered by this brand new facility based in North Wexford in Courtown Harbour. An exciting and challenging team building course was the highlight of my afternoon today, being shown around the 13m high timber clad structure at the Forest Park Leisure Centre.

Driving into the car park I could not help but to notice the huge new tower that is perched up on the high ground of this landscaped centre. Looking like one of the towers used by the Romans to storm castles, it is a very impressive structure.

Gravity Forest Park

Being stationed in an ideal location, so close to Dublin it will definitely put other more famous places in Connamara and the west of Ireland a run for their money. Shane the manager walked me through the various facilities including

  • Zip Wire
  • Climbing Wall
  • Crate Stack
  • Jacobs Ladder
  • Tot-um Poles
  • etc

Creating the website for Gravity is unusual in that it’s still being built, so forgive us for using some stock photo’s, but being down there today really showed that it will the very same. The thrill of the high ropes and the full effective will become evident when we have the footage for the videos that will accompany the website. Video from the head cams will be available soon and then we will hopefully bring the website to life with real experiences from real visitors the centre.

Services Provided:

  • Domain name management
  • Web hosting
  • Website design

This is our slogan or catch line at Cada Media Ltd, we have been telling companies for years that the web is not only on your pc at home or in your office, but it is everywhere.

This week see’s Free Wi Fi broadband being tested on the railway system from Dublin to Cork route, enabling passengers to use high speed internet access for surfing the net, writing emails and even using Internet Telephones programs such as Skype.

It’s only a trial, but lets hope that broadband is rolled out to more and more locations and this will be another building block that will drag Ireland out of the “R” word, we can’t mention!

How much does web marketing costs?

April 6th, 2010 by admin

This is a very interesting question and one that comes up all the time, even today we have a caller to the office looking for a price for “web marketing”. Trying not to bore them with the different options I explained that it depends on how much they wish to spend and the scale of the project.

Web marketing is a process that we “web designers” split up into packages in bite size chunks that companies can afford and also understand. It is a science, computer science that changes each day as technology and search engines change.

The methods we use are all above board, called “White hat” methods. This is an important point as many so called web designers will use sneaky tricks to try to cheat google, and when google find out about these tricks you can imagine the result . . . Yes, the can de-list your business and effectively make you ex-directory.

Web marketing should be taken seriously and at Cada Media we respect our clients, we respects search engines guidelines and build structured online marketing campaings for companies who take the Internet seriously too.

Networking in Wexford

April 6th, 2010 by admin

As many people might already know, we at Cada Media Ltd are proud members of the local chapter of BNI, Business Network International. The local Gorey chapter has weekly networking meetings where we help grow each others business by looking out for referrals for each other.

This network model is an americian philosphy that is 25 years old this year. Unlike other networking groups that are the flavour of the month, Bni is proven to grow your turn over and profits by relationship networking.

The relationships are strenghtened by a unique structure in Bni and that is only allowing 1 member per category. This means that we only allow one person per seat/category. By keeping this structure we reduce conflicts and work with each other to grow and understand each of our businesses and therefore be in a position to give real referrals.

What is a referral?

This is simply an indication that you know of someone who is interested in your service or product.

Example: Say we get a new client that is starting a new business and during our process we find see that they have no accountant or business cards printed yet, well we are in a great position to tell that client about our business partners on BNI.

Want to know more?

If you would like to be part of our network and learn how to network professionally then why not come along to an information evening.

When and where?

Tuesday, 27th April, 2010 at 7pm in the Ashdown Park Hotel

The evening will be aimed at explaining how Bni works and that we are looking for new members in specific seats and categories, so if you think you could handle more business at the moment, why not come along.

Call Dave Jordan for more details.

Has Google changed?

April 1st, 2010 by admin

Yes, is the answer.

The latest changes to the number one search engine in Ireland has finally come online. These latest updates to it’s functionality are pushing the ability of local search right down to the county level.

Before we were able to choose by the world or pages from Ireland. Now we can step even further into a search and breakdown our definition of what we hope to get as results by specifing our current localtion.

Google will then look for local information for your search term. Didn’t they always do this you say . . . I thought so too but apparently not.

Look at the new left hand column of a search to see the changes to the layout and options available. Then look at the results and see if they are more local local !

Great news for getting more precise results now all we have to do is tell google that some counties names are also towns in that county. So when someone googles “something in Wexford” do the mean the county or the town!

For more information on how we can help google find your business call Dave Jordan of Cada Media Ltd today, tel 053 9430748.

Amateur spammers?

March 30th, 2010 by admin

We would like to inform all our clients on our business hosting packs that we have put a limit on the number of outgoing emails to avoid them being “ear-marked” as amateur spammers!

Example:

If you are using an email program like Outlook Express, Thunder Bird you will be writing an email and then adding in multiple email address and sometimes up to 40 or 50 email addresses in one go.

Then the email sent and the internet service provider, such as eircom see’s your one small email address sending out 60 emails and marks it as a spam attempt.

With spam on the ever increase it is getting harder and harder to find a hosting business like us or an internet service provider to allow you to do this.

What are your options:

Constant Contact is a brilliant online service that allow you to create these newsletter and email them out to your subscribers.

Remember the word subscribers means that they subscribe to your email, sending out emails to a list to people to have not got the opportunity to unsubscribe is called Spamming!

Yes, you are a spammer and you didn’t know it so the next time you are talking about emailing your clients or sending out an ezine, think again about your legal obligations in sending electronic mail

You are supposed to send out emails to a list of people using a special program or facility that allows multiple emails and allows this opt in, opt out feature.

Any questions, just send me an email, just one, not 20 !!

Black Hat Trick SEO works?

March 22nd, 2010 by admin

I had a good telephone call from a client who knows his stuff when it comes to web search engine optimisation (SEO) and he has decided to set up another few smaller sites to see how he can create more traffic to his main website using these Gateway pages or sites.

He’s pissed off listening to myself and other professionals in the business yabbering on about how you must only use the correct structure in websites to get them a good page rank and higher in Google. He See’s is competitors using new domains that’s a jammed packed with keywords and search terms that go way over the general rules of keyword density etc.

Will it get anywhere, will it increase his traffic and send more business his way?

Have you done something like this before and if so what would you suggest he does. He has a budget to play with, oh and by the way he’s using about 6 social media websites, rss feeds, press release sites, link building and any other method of promoting his site to increase the traffic. He even mentioned doing flyer drops today !!!!!

I’m looking for feedback and suggest, have you done this and has it helped.

Let me know.

Regards

Content Management Software

March 20th, 2010 by admin

There are many different types of content management software including paid software off the shelf, licenced software you pay for on a monthly basis or annual basis. We use one called open source, where the application is free to use and we use these for many reasons, but mostly to reduce the costs for the customer.

We use WordPress, Joomla, Mambo, OS Commerce, ZenCart to name a few. These can be found easily online and our many years in business have meant that we can demonstrate how they work and how to get the most out of them.

We have created a demo site to demonstrate how a business can edit their content and publish online information easily, in-fact even from your iphone if you are on the move.

For more information about using a content management system based on open source applications call Dave Jordan of Cada Media to set up an online demo for you to login and use.

Facebook overtakes Google!

March 16th, 2010 by admin

News today that Facebook have overtaken Google as the number 1 website in terms of visits according to “Hitwise”.

This is something I was only giving a talk about today to a group of business people here in the south east. I was explaining that social media needs to be managed correctly by staff of businesses if they are going to use this tool to attract traffic to their business using Facebook.

I had mentioned that facebook had over taken Yahoo and Microsoft already and this news today that this has happened this week has huge implications for the search world in general.

Companies will now be wondering if they should get a website and Facebook should now be exploiting this fact with their advertising costs and web designers/ programmers guru’s should be writting Apps for facebook.

The Whole World’s In A State O Chassis !

If you remember the quote from,  Juno And The Paycock then you will know what I mean. If we look at this in other terms, lets say 10 years ago we needed to find a telephone number where did we look ? Yes in a big yellow book in the office, now that big yellow book has been demoted to “Computer stand for your Monitor”

The whole world is changing, now we look for information online usually Goolge. But if Google have been toppled off the number 1 position in just 3 short years, what is next?

Food for thougt, chewing gum for the brain.

Enjoy the St Patrick’s Day where ever you are
