One of our long established local customers asked us to look at moving their existing website to a new content managed version. After a meeting we choose a system that would suit the clients needs and budget and in this day and age a customers budget will often dictate the final product. Before we set about changing anything we had to look at the sites stats, as their is no point removing one of their most popular pages! We backed up the old site, installed the new content management system with the various needed plugins such as Contact Form, Mapping and ...
Business is tough today and companies need to make use of technology if they are to reduce costs whilst also offering something new to their customers. Hook & Hoist do it ! Ken Murphy is just one of those business people, Ken approached us to design a solution that would give them the capabilities they needed to provide their customers with an online facility to manage documents. The solution also happens to be a website ! At Cada Media we specialise in this type of solution and we jumped at the opportunity to show off our expertise. So we set about working with ...
We are delighted to announce the launch of a revamped site for a secondary school in Co. Kildare. Scoil Mhuire Clane is one of the largest schools in the area and they approached up to take care of their website needs. We created a new site based upon a open source structure that is also fully content managed. The new site lists all the information that parents and pupils alike will need to be up-to-date with the school. All their policies are listed as well as the board of management and school calendar. The school have also invested heavily in cloud ...
We were happy to be approached by an Arklow based charity to help her get her website back after the domain name and hosting had expired. With over 13 years experience and contacts in the industry we were able to get everything within two weeks after been contacted. We managed to track down the previous domain name registrant, renew her domain name. Then move onto the website itself and get back the pages, images and then finally the database. We did it ! With in a matter to 10 working days we had everything back online and up and running. If you ...
Well, we think they are. Martins Jewellers in Wexford town have been one of our customers for many years and we have seen their business change over the years and so too have their on-line presence. From being a brochure static HTML site Kevin and his team have progressed the site with us to a full content managed site giving them the capability to update it easily. New for 2011/2012. Going social is what it's all about these days in terms of word of mouth marketing and what better way to take advantage of this new medium using social media site such as ...
Around this time of year we get asked what is the most popular website to buy from or what would be a unique items to buy on-line. Ironically people also wish it to be unusual or unique, something that isn't in every stocking, well why not get a Christmas voucher for a Discover Scuba Diving Course. Ok, these vouchers don't have to be used on Stephen's Day, but when its thawed out a bit more it would be a great way to get back outdoors and see a different side of Ireland. Scubadive West in Connemara run Discover Scuba courses and they have a ...
Just a little reminder that if you are looking for Santa in Wexford this year and searching online for a place to bring the kids then look no further than Kia Ora ini Farm. They are a family run mini farm that specialise in putting on a good how for seasonal themes. They ran a great Halloween show and now have revamped the entire Mini Farm to a Winter wonderland. They are based between Gorey and Courtown just off the M11 at exit 23. Directions to Kia Ora, click here. We created their site a while back and it still works and brings ...
We recently had a meeting with a new business starting out here in the Southeast. We met, discussed their intension's and objectives etc. At this point they had not even registered their business name with the companies office So they registered as a Sole Trader and used the name that they wished to trade under. So they were set . . . . or so they thought, so day they came back to us with the idea of securing the domain name, but in the weeks that passed somebody else registered the domain name for a website. It's gone. If you want to ...
Just thought I'd throw it out there and let businesses with online shops know that depending on the software used to build your site and the way that it was built etc, you might be in for a surprise when you look at your bank account and find that the monies paid in were actually paid to someone else's account !!! Security Patches and Fixes If your site is not fully up-to-date and by up-to-date, I mean yesterday or today and not in the past 3 or 4 months then I would strongly recommend that you login and install any patches or ...
If I got a Euro for every call I get to the office asking can we help companies track down their web designer as their domain name has expired and he has apparently moved aboard. Emails lost, website lost, google position lost, orders lost, credibility lost. In some instances we can help them as we have good contacts in the trade etc and other times we have to tell them all their work is gone! If this has happened to you, call us.
We would just like to let our customers know that we have replaced one of the hard disks on the main hosting server last night. The server in question has a number of disks that mirror their data. One of disks was running slowly and so it has been replaced. All sites tested and working fine. Regards Dave
Earlier this year we (Cada Media Ltd) were part of a Dragon's Den style competition in North Wexford to try to find and help a new start up business. The winner of this was a fresh new business called Ciara's Pantry, registered in March 2011, a home based food business producing artisan jellies and chutney's. As part of that price Ciara won a content managed website from ourselves. We have a number of products and services that we offer and for this competition we donated a custom package to help this new business get on-line. Ciara's Pantry already had a holding page that was registered and ...
We have just launched a new website for an established business here in Wexford. Wells Granite & Marble Ltd are one of the top suppliers of Granite worktops in the South East. We received a phone call and after some discussion about our services we called out onsite to meet Lisa and her team. An impressive purpose built factory just a few miles south of Gorey, Co. Wexford. Revamp our website. One of the main issues of their existing site was that it could not be updated by themselves, it also couldn't be updated by anyone else other than the original creator ...
For those of you who are interested in using some of the latest internet browsers well then go get yourself the latest version of Mozilla's Firefox. Beta Version 6 is now ready for download and seems to be good so far. Its been released very soon after people are only getting used to version 5. This appears to be explained in the release notes as many of the updated in the version are security related. The release of the new version is also related to the increase in sales in Tablets in the PC market. The new version is designed to ...
Today I was working away as usual and a customer came onto Facebook and said Hi and then told me he was away in London with the family and got mugged and needed help. A little strange as I know him, but didnt think we were at 'That' stage of business that he would be so familiar and chatty. I knew something was wrong and called his office and the receptionist told me he was actually in Gorey and that he was with a client in the next room. I said what had happened and that she believed he might have ...

Only two minutes after writing the last blog post the phone rings and its a client who set up a website with us last year and we registered a domain name for them. The reminder renewal was sent out on the first of March 2011. It has since expired and their domain name was bought by another company.
I know, they now have to reprint all their stationary as otherwise they will be advertising a competitor on their headed paper, invoices, business cars, flyers and compliment slips. So today we secured another domain name for them and are in the middle of setting up their emails and changing their website. I could tell you another story of the haulage company who lost their .com and had to reprint all their truck signage. (both sides too!)
Anyway, if you are looking at reducing your annual printing costs I would suggest making sure your domain name gets renewed.

I would just like to reminder our own customers, that when you receive a renewal invoice for our services including:
Please remember that as this is the Notice of Reminder for the services we provide you. The invoice would be an annual fee that you have accounted for as a recurring costs to running the business. I would suggest making it a priority on your accounting system or a large post it in front of you for future reference.
Unless you have a signed agreement with ourselves to be on a direct debit system, we simply issue the renewal invoice and wait for payment, if payment is not received then the services are not renewed.
This year we have continued to reduce recurring costs for our clients and at the same time investing in better and faster hosting services. The knock on effect is that we can no longer have a fleet of staff telephoning you to remind you about YOUR domain name and other services we provide you. Remember it’s YOUR domain, take pride in it, use it, be proud of your business name. Even though its only usually a small recurring costs, its has great value to you and your customers.
So if you are a domain owner or a business owner and you want to stay on top of your industry, remember the little things all add up to better business. Start with small recurring costs that are important.

Today’s mini website is for a Plant hire business based in Enniscorthy called Dempsey Plant Hire. They are a family business with tonnes of experiences in the construction and building industry (Yes, the pun was intended!) We have created a mini website to help them get their first foot on the Internet ladder. Often when a business is moving online they will take smaller steps as they are unsure of the pros and cons of being on-line.
This small site allows the Dempsey Plant Hire business to be found online and contacted. The site consists of only 3 pages, A homepage, a contact form and and acknowledgement page. Though small the site gets the point across that these guys are involved in Foundations, drainage, sub floors, footpaths as-well as concrete work and have machines from 3 tonne to 21 tonne available.

One of the questions we get asked about this time of year is to give websites a spring clean and to freshen them up. Yes, it can be done, but usually a question I have to ask is what would they like. Websites are not just brochures for the business, they are a piece working marketing software crawling the Internet promoting your business, or at least they can be if you make them that way. Otherwise they are just a poster on the Internet, 1 of trillions waiting to see if you can find them.
Changing the colours will make it look different, but it will not change its purpose of the website. Very often we are asked to help poorly designed websites or poorly managed sites that have no purpose to give them a fresh look. It is at this stage that I bring the conversation around to asking about the company, their stats, their goals, their achievements to date and without these details giving the website a new paint job will not take away from the underlying dry-rot or mould problem.
Google will see its changed, but remember Google is cleverer than people give them credit for. Changing the colour of a pub exterior wont make the pints taste any better, Changing the tables and chairs of a restaurant won’t make the food taste any better so why do people think that changing the colour of a website will make the user happier if the content itself is not what they are looking for.
This process is vital in changing the look and feel to a website and the overall goals must be focused upon again. If you are talking to people in business about the web and how its used, tell them you read this and how we work with companies looking to revamp their websites for spring !

This is a question we get asked all the time, telephone calls come into the office asking how a business get get higher in Google or how they can come up for various searches. Well the answer is not simple, but following a few simple step can help.
Keeping your domain name registered. Sounds simple but often is neglected and put on the long finger as its only a few euros and can end up costing you thousands in a marketing spend to get listed again.
Because search engines do not wish to display old or expired websites, therefore as part of their algorithm they exclude expired domain names. Think about it, with the amount of businesses gone out of business in the past 3 years in Ireland, if they didn’t every-time we did a search we would get an error “Page not found”. The web would come to a halt.
We have found that it can take as little as 4 to 5 days for Google to remove a business from it’s listing! So if you have a business and are looking to get ranked higher, do the simple things, renew your domain name!

When I told my girlfriend that I had to go into the office for a meeting with a clown, she told me not to talk about a client like that. But its wasn’t me being rude to a client is was simply me talking about of latest customer!
Giggles the clown, as he is know is a genuine what you see is what you get person, he is full of fun and a breath of fresh air. He needed help with setting up a small website to help promote his business. More often these days he found himself sending out old posters and photographs to potential customers.
After a quick chat about how the Internet can help his business we created a small website to show his services. He not only does kids parties but more often these days is asked to do it As Gaeilge. He is a fluent Irish speaker and its an easy way for kids to see the language in a fun environment.

We are upgrading again!
Yes, I know, it means about 10 minutes of downtime and a pain in the backside for you and me, but hey it will all be worth it in the end. As mentioned previously speed is getting to be a vital issue with many applications now running on-line and our clients are asking each week can we speed up the hosting servers to help with the requirements of new emerging software applications such as CCTV Streaming, on-line backups, on-line editing to name a few. Basically everything that is cloud based and needs to be live and accessed 24/7.

When: Friday 8th April @ 08.30
What: More memory being installed.
Where: Data Electronics Centre.
Why: Because I love speed!
Downtime: estimates to be 10 minutes
So the services that will be effected will be Email, Database applications, Websites. Our Spam filters will be running as normal as they are on a separate server
Any questions, call me.

Great to see one of our clients featured alongside some of Ireland’s best wildlife on tonight show of “Living the Wild Life” on national TV. Scubadive West are a family run diving resort situated on the famous Killary Fjord on Ireland west coast. Some of the best diving in Europe is said to be had with a good variety of sea life and usually great visibility, sometimes in the high 20′s (thats meter’s for the non divers).
The guys are passionate about their sport and indeed the lifestyle that the west of Ireland has to offer, I look forward to the programe now and have pressed record already!
For those of you who have missed it, make sure to check our the RTE Player website to catch it a month after tonight showing.
Best of luck Guys

Wow what fun we have with sending mail via the various broadband providers in Ireland. As you might be aware receiving an email is usually no problem and people get mail via the email provider, so Eircom customers get mail from mail.eircom.net and most companies get mail from mail.companydomain.ie etc. I have spoken about this before arising in questions about which smtp server to use etc
In order to cut down on bandwidth that they must carry and deal with spam etc many operators in Ireland have restricted the use of their Out Going Mail Server to cut down on the traffic that in theory should be travelling via the mail provider.
So if you are a Three Broadband user and are using Eircom for mail and wish to send mail using Outlook Express etc then try the following setting to send mail.
This must be set as your Outgoing mail server in your email program, usually in Tools ->Accounts -> Setting ->Servers – Outgoing mail
Hope this helps, as I see from doing Google search many have answered that it can not be done.

Thinking of upgrading your web browser then a new version of Mozilla Firefox 4 is now available to download from their website. We have been using the Beta version for a few weeks now and it appears that they have worked on the speed issues that was causing it to run slowly.
As mentioned in previous posts, speed when browsing the net is at the forefront of web development these days as the various browsers from Google and Microsoft are battling to be the most popular. Once they have the highest percentage of usage they can then make their search engine the default and thus gain market share.
Firefox has many Add-on’s that make your simple web browser into a real business tool. Add on’s include Social Media booking marking to web development tools. Download management is a favourite for many teenagers.
Get Notified when websites are updated is another small add-on that’s a simple and effective tool.
So as before with the other Internet browsers, have a look at your own website and your competitors to see if its compatible. If not, give me a call and we can schedule in an upgrade for you.

We have upgraded our servers today to take advantage of Quad Core processing. This meant the downtime for 15 minutes during lunch time while our engineer Brian installed the 2 new Intell processors.
Well if this news doesn’t float your boat or give you a tingle, it should because it does for us and our hosting customers. The internet is more that just a place to upload a brochure saying we are here. Its more that Facebook , Twitter or a place to save family photos.
Search engine giant Google have repeatedly said that they wish to see faster websites and that they are giving a priority to sites that are fast to download. If your website is on a slow hosting platform it may have a negative effect on your ranking, if you host that websites far away from your target market, lets say in the USA or Asia then retrieving that website will take longer again.
New technologies in cloud computing means that websites can be more than just a “We are here” sign, they are the centre of many businesses communications, storage, booking and invoicing systems. All of these processes are migrating away from your PC and into the cloud. Is your cloud (or hosting server) capable to take that information and process it fast enough.
At Cada Media we understand and know what will be happening in 2 and 3 years time (despite the Mayan 2012 Prediction !) we do expect to still be here and know know that the businesses that have grasped mobile/cloud technologies will be here with us.
If you are looking for fast reliable cloud or web hosting then call myself Dave Jordan to discuss your need.

Yes, its here Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9, the all new and improved and apparently faster version of their browser. As the competition heats up for browsers that have better compatibility for HTML 5 Microsoft have launched their latest version now.
Side effects will include the dropping of support for older versions of Internet Explorer and even dropping of support for its support for it running on older operating systems such as Windows XP!
So get yourself a fresh browser today and see how your or your competitors website looks in the new version 9. Even our own site is not displaying correctly in V9, so the old expression of “a plumbers taps always leaks” is demonstrated here as we must update our own site to function correctly, as soon as we finish updating the rest of our clients sites!
Tor those of you who have been using Google Chrome for a while now you will see a huge similarity !
